Michon states involvement with Culinary Arts program at RHS
Another program that I advocated for while I was at the high school was our culinary arts program.
I worked along the superintendent to start this program and create a curriculum to provide our students with the best opportunity and experience. With my assistance, this program was also certified through the state of Michigan.
During the first year of running our program, the teacher left the district in September. No extra teacher was available; therefore, to prevent the class from folding or being cut, I stepped in and taught the class for three weeks every day while being principal until a new food service director/teacher was hired.
I also worked with the superintendent to develop new facilities for this program. This included cleaning all the old and new utensils, cleaning the cabinets, floors, and other necessary items for the class. This was done to provide the best facility for our students to learn. All of this was accomplished to provide our kids with an opportunity to learn about a career prior to graduation. It is about preparing them for the real world. #DebForBoard

Michon declines invitation from Walmsley
On August 20, I received a letter from Mr. Walmsley, Superintendent of Richmond Community Schools. It was an invitation to participate in a Meet the Board of Education Candidate event. This event was formatted as a debate between the candidates running for the school board. I respectfully declined participating in this event for the following reason: I believe the format suggested for this event-debate-would have a negative impact on those individuals who make the board. I believe the board needs to collaborate and not focus on their differences.
I have been informed that the City of Richmond is hosting a meet the candidate forum which will highlight each candidate in their own light. I believe that this would be a more positive approach to getting to know the candidates running for the board.
If you ever have any questions regarding my positions, you are more than welcome to post them on my Facebook page, or email me at debforboarded@gmail.com; and I will reply within 24 hours. As soon as I have a date for the City of Richmond event, I will post it on Facebook. Again, thank you for your support, and I am excited for what is to come in November! #DebForBoard
